When I link a cell in a workbook to a cell in another workbook that is itself linked to a cell in a third workbook, I have to open the middle one for the top one to update. Am I stuck with that or is there some setup I can change to allow a workbook cell to update to a value two workbooks below it without opening the middle one?

Nothing you can do that I am aware of, and it really doesn't seem likely. If you want the middle workbook to update then it must be open.
However, the middle workbook will return the latest values in the third workbook at the time the second workbook was last updated and saved.

Maybe if you explain the issue a bit more someone will be able to suggest an alternate approach.

Hi bob,

Is there a reason you can't link directly to your ultimate source workbook, rather than the intermediate one?

Cheers
