We use SMS to push out security patches and Service Packs. During my recent deployment, i ran into several computers that reported C:\windows\system32\iertutil.dll missing after computers rebooted upon finishing the SP3 installation.

With the iertutil.dll the users were not able to get passed the login screen. We fixed the issue by replacing the missing DLL using the task manager.

Has anyone run into this problem? Why would SP3 mess up the ie dll? In one has the user was reverted back to IE6.0.

No, some workstation had SP3 installed manually and strangely enough their installation went fine.

it looks like SP3 almost did not recognize IE7 or treated it as malfunctioning and tried to uninstall it. At least missing ie...dll happens when IE 7 is uninstalled improperly
