Does anyone know where I can download the resource cd
for a Dell optiplex g280.

Already tried that.

I loaded windows xp. nic card and sound card have no drivers. Both reside on the mother board.

Installed a new nic card, went to dell web site,
drivers not found.

I have had this problem in the past with other dell pc's
and the resource cd is the only fix.

It scans the pc and finds devices.Drivers are on the cd.

If you added a NIC card you need to go to the manfuctures web site for the card. Then go to Dell's website for the sound drivers. Everything you find on the resource CD will be on Dell's website.

When frustrated remember, in the computer world there is almost always a backdoor.

I've found Dell to be great in providing what I need.

If you will get into the BIOS you will probably find a service tag number on one of the screens, usually the front.

With this service tag number you will be able to get to the download section for the drivers of your specific machine.

Then it is a matter of downloading all the drivers to a place on your hard drive for storage. Then you run the self-extracting program, which puts the drivers out to another place. Some install automatically, some have to be sucked in.

The only problem I've run across is when I've tried to force either much older or much later versions of the OS than the machine was designed around.

Thanks Franklin,
I had been to dell support countless times. But I was putting in my service tag ID.

Your link had more drivers and two of them were the ones I needed.

Next time I will leave the service tag blank.

Thanks again.

Dell pretty much only uses two NIC's for their desktops either the Broadcom for the gigiabit nic or the Intel for their 100 nic's. If neither driver is working, tahn your NIC is probably bad.

I have the driver disk but I am not sticking my private FTP info here for these miscreants around here to hammer on. If you've got a public anonymous FTP I'll upload an ISO to you but short of that I'd still lay odds of a bad nic.

Cheers
Rob
