Hello,

A friend gave me his laptop to trouble shoot... initially I thought it just had a bad HDD because it would be accessible for only a few minutes every few hours before disappearing and becoming inaccessible.

However, now the machine will not even power on. It went from a HDD issue to a power issue over the course of about 3 days (the machine was sitting on my desk at work, completely untouched and turned off, not even plugged in).

When I have the battery in, I get a single orange flash from the battery LED but no power. When I take out the battery and have only the adapter plugged in, the machine gives no response to button pushing but periodically flashes the outer most LED's of the front batch of 3 LED's.

The machine never worked for me w/ the battery in, but it has worked for me with the adapter plugged in. Now it doesn't work at all.

Any advice? Or is it just another dead Dell MB?

TYIA,
iB

OK, so different problem, different laptop![tab][wink]

I would try a power adapter from another laptop. To be safe, use only Dell adapters, although other brands typically use the same current/voltage.

Of course, it doesn't hurt to try what we mentioned in the other thread, but the Inspirons typically don't suffer from the same issue dealing with "loose screws" and what not.

I just had (2 months ago), a friend that had her Dell laptop do the same thing. Luckily she had a 3 year, on site warranty, (gee - I couldn't work on it!). The tech came out and replaced the mainboard (onboard power component problem). I hope you have better luck.
