Dell Inspiron 5150 and wireless card

I just got my new Inspiron 5150 notebook w/the wireless card built in. No matter how close I am to the router and what channels it's switched to, the connection goes from excellent and then to low.

Any suggestions? Does the BIOS need to be upgraded?

It might drop the power level once it's establish a connection to save on power. You might wanna check the power settings of the Wi-Fi card and make sure it stays at maximum strengh at all times.
