i have a friend who has a Dell 8600 laptop with a Nvidia GForce 5200 video card installed. he has this laptop hooked up to a Dell 2005FPW 21" monitor. he's having some sort of issue with the his monitor settings not holding. he is an architect so he needs a really high resolution setting on the 21" monitor so he can more easily view renderings. he was having all sorts of other problems (don't know what they were exactly) and took his laptop into the local pc fix-em-up place and they promptly wiped his hard drive out - thanks guys! at any rate, he finally got everything re-installed and back to working order (minus the data he lost cuz they didn't save any of it or tell him they were going to wipe it out). but now whenever his laptop goes into screen saver or if he turns the laptop off, the resolution settings for the 21" monitor are not there. he has to go back in each time and reset them. anyone heard of this before? he tried updating the driver and that didn't help. i haven't seen anything like this before and don't know how to help him.

Has he set the settings for the correct screen? He should see two screens with the monitor plugged in and be able to set separate reolutions for each.

The only other thing I can think is to check the refresh rate. It may be a shade to high and causing a reset.

i'll have him check the Refresh Rate. hadn't done that. he does have the resolution for the screens correct - one for the laptop screen and a different one (larger) for the 21" screen.
