Deleting old mail accounts

I would like to delete the old mail accounts. Right now there are just disabled and taking up space. I would like to back them up onto CD. How should I do this?
Should I go in and create PST files and burn them? Can I copy the MBX folders? If so, how would I potentially recover this data in the future if needed?
New Idea... can i just back up the accounts onto a tape?
