Would deleting a hidden partiton on a HP box be ok, it wouldn't render the computer useless? It currently has ME on it and I want to put Xp on it!

Should be ok - it generally holds files to restore the original installation, which if you're getting rid of ME, shouldn't matter. I think on some older compaq machines it also was effectively part of the bios (but its been ok to remove on the half dozen or so HP machines I've upgraded to XP).

Note: You have run XP's compatibility check to ensure machine is ok to run XP? (its on the XP install CD).

not yet, but it should be ok as it was bought in late 2001.

I think it is a MSI mobo!

cheers wolluf, yes I read that compaq machines caused some problems but this is a HP using the hidden partition to reinstall back to the way it was out of the box!
