Deleted Files???

Here's the problem, I am using CF 5. And I have a CMS that was built in house. For some reason, when a user uploads a file it works. But months (4-5) after the file hasnt been used, it disappears. The user isnt deleting the files, and the record is still in the database. But the file itself is not in the folder. Can anyone explain to me whats going on. Is this something with Coldfusion, or is this some server issue. A user missing a file isnt a big issue, but if some of my .cfm files go missing I'll lose my head. Has this ever happened to anyone.

Anyone losing a file is a big issue.

Who administers the server that holds the user files? What's the retention policy? Are there tape or disk backups?

We admin the servers, and yes we do tape backups. Rentention policy, as far as I know forever.

Try auditing access to the target directory.
