Delete user folder

Hello all,

I'm trying to delete a virus. The virus is in a user folder that was deleted.

The computer had three users deleted. I go into explore to delete the folders and I get a message saying that the folder is not accessible. Access is denied. This is a Windows XP Home OS. I have hidden folders and files unchecked in Folder Options. How can I get access to these folders so I can delete them from the system?

Try Safe Mode, command-prompt only, (write down the exact folder path first), and delete it this way. Failing that, there are utilities which will flag the folder for delete upon reboot, one is here:

You need to take ownership of the folder(s)

thanks for the info. I tried Safe Mode and still can't delete the folder. I checked out that link and the free program is no longer. I need a solution that is free.

Another option is to download something like Knoppix (

http://www.knoppix.com/).

You can burn their live cd and boot off of it. Once it loads, you will have access to your harddrive (in a GUI interface) that you can use to delete the directories you would like.

Of course, for this solution you would need a blank disc and CD-Burner.
