Ever find some files you can't delete? I just had some. Explorer showed them but Windows said it "could not find the file" when I tried to delete them. I even tried it in a command prompt. No luck "could not find the file".

Until I found out how to show the 8.3 or DOS file names in 2000. It is dir /x. It will show the old fashioned name for the folder or file.
Example: Directory name "drive l" shows up as "drivel~2 with dir /x. Then "rmdir drivel~2" worked to delete the folder.
FYI: I had run chkdsk more than once and it would not help.

If Windows 2000 Pro refuse to delete the files you want to delete, try to move them to another folder and try again.
It works for me.

Thanks Kenneth! That was easy.
