Hello there,
I have had a few users leave our company and I would like to delete their roaming profile folders off of the server. I have taken ownership of the file at the server, but when I try to delete the folder, I get "File is in use" errors.
Sometimes it is desktop.ini, sometimes it is a .wps file.(That is odd in itself, we don't use Word Perfect.)
Does anyone out there have any ideas?
Thanks,
Jamie

Jamie, I am assuming that after taking ownership you did also grant yourself the appropriate permissions needed to delete the file. If you own the file but do not have permission to it, you will get an "Access Denied...File may be in use." message.
Can't think of anything else offhand and I just tested it out and had no problems doing the deletion.

Good Luck...[ponytails2]

GrnEyedLdy,
Thanks for your tip. I was missing the permission step. I also had to back out after changing the permissions, then go back in to change it to "Interactive".
Then I could delete.

Thanks again. I really appreciate your help.
I also appreciate this web site. It has saved my bacon more than once!!!

Just curious what you meant when you said, "..then go back in to change it to "Interactive".

Just gave you a star, GrnEyedLdy. Can't tell you the number of problems we've had because people don't understand permissions. The previous network admin had 27 admins on the network, just because he would add them to a group, they couldn't access a resource, would walk away in discust, and forget about it. The next day, the user could get in, so he figured they had to be admins. All he had to do is have the user log out, then log back in. Always check authentications first. Glad superjet got it solved thanks to you. I also am curios about the then go back in to change it to "Interactive".

Sorry I have not answered the interactive bit I left.
What I meant to say is when you get the permissions straight, then add the “interactive” user to permissions. Then you can add, change and delete to your hearts content.

I hope I cleared up my confusion.

This site is also my home page. I work by myself in an 80-person company, so this site is absolutely invaluable.

Thanks for the support!
Jamie
