I foolishy dared to run IE 7 on my pc, but the browser freezes everytime I try to go to a site.

So now I've removed the browser from add/remove windows component and I want to install IE 6 again. Problem is that when I double click IE 6, I get an error saying that there is already a new version of IE installed on the system.

I went to the windows folder and deleted the IE 7 Beta 3 folder, but still get the error above.

Any suggestions?

If no joy:

For Betas 1 & 2:
[ul]
li]Go to Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/View - Enable the Show Hidden Files and Folders.[/li]
[li]Go to Start Menu/Run paste the following code & press enter(check the exact path in your windows folder):

%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2p$\spuninst\spuninst.exe
OR
%windir%\$NtUninstallie7bet2$\spuninst\spuninst.exe[/li]

[li]One other way to do is to manually navigate to the path shown above and click on spuninst.exe./li][/ul]

For Beta 3

Show Hidden Files and Folders.

Start, Run, C:\WINDOWS\ie7beta3\spuninst\spuninst.exe

By the way, there is a Hotfix for IE 7 Beta 3 that might help with your closing issue:
An interaction between Yahoo Toolbar and recent Microsoft security hotfixes can lead to this undersired behavior: IE will either exit within seconds of starting, or freeze.

I believe at the moment for IE 6 you have to uninstall the Yahoo toolbar with Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.

For Internet Explorer 3 Beta, there is a hotfix for this issue from Microsoft:

add/remove windows component" or do you mean the "Add or Remove programs"? All the Windows Components do is remove shortcuts not uninstall IE. If so, Bill's link should put you on the right track.

Have you had a go with System Restore?

You could try adapting this article to suit IE7 and try using the Recovery Console.

Have a look at the Security Permissions for the relevant $NtUninstall$ in C:/Windows.

If you properly uninstall IE 7 Beta, it will re-initialize IE 6 with all patches for you.

Nothing need be done.

So, it would be unwise to delete anything as you may prevent the restoration of IE 6.
