I have this weird five second delay when I go to click the start button and then have the shutdown box appear. Has anyone else experienced this? I recently rebuilt the machine and now it seems worse.

Any help is appreciated.

Give this a try, go to start, run, type regedit and hit enter. Click edit, find, then type autoendtask , Change its value from 0 to 1.

That should speed shutdown up quite a bit just keep in mind if anything is running it will not prompt you if you wish to save as it will just skip and shut down immediately.

Hi, Ironhide

I have seen this a couple of times. Check this thread: thread779-1386433.

Also, make sure you don't have any issues with your video driver - when displaying the shutdown dialog XP reduces the color depth of the background in stages, and that may cause a delay.

Try another user profile to see if your profile is corrupt.
Try safe mode to see if it happens there.
