I am running Windows 98 SE. I have been using it for years. In the last month a very peculiar problem has started. No matter what program I am running (MS Word, Dreamweaver 4, Quicken 2001, every program.), when I check the printer settings (on any printer from within the program - I have two printers as well as Adobe Distiller and FAX print drivers), it tells me the paper size is set at 8 ½ by 11. When I check the Page Setup, it tells me the paper size is 8 ½ by 14. If I do not change the paper size in the Page Settings before I print, it does not print correctly. I must always change the paper size - in the Page Setup - to 8 ½ by 11 for correct printing. I must do that every time I run the program.

My best guess is that something has changed the default paper size setting in the registry. Whether that is the case or not it is beyond me to find it. Any help will be greatly appreciated, as this problem is irritating, especially when I forget to change the paper size before printing.

I have been running into problems lately in win98se that have never occured before. As you say the same thing, I am starting to wonder if Microsoft has put a silent bug out to begin corrupting win98se because sales of win xp have been more than disapointing.
I'm not trying to be paranoid, but like you, i have been using 98 for years and now am having rediculouse errors and system changes.
just an observation.

pcs800, a silent bug to corrupt 98??? Get real! LOL

ray2nite try this. Go into My Computer--Printers--right click your printer and select Properties. Change the paper size to Letter size then ok out and see if it holds.

pcs800, if you have been using Win 98 for years then it is probably high time you did a format and clean reinstall. this should fix your windows problems.
Your paranoia could be a bit more difficult... ;-) All things are possible except skiing through a revolving door.

Thanks Kento, but I have done that a dozen times on all my printers already.

Mulga,

You are probably right but in this fast paced world, I probably won't. Not until there is a total melt-down.
