Definity-Door Opening System

HI! Would really appreciate to receive any information on how to connect Definity PBX to Door Opening system that it would enable door opening from the handset, f.e. 6208D+. Thanks!

Sorry mate I couldnt resist it. What is the problem that you are trying to solve with this solution and how would it work in a perfect environment? Is it for one phone or is it a function you would need across a lot of phones? Why cant you have a door release switch at the desk? John

I think that Viking electronics makes a DTMF activated door buzzer. You dial an analog extension number, and then press a series of DTMF digits. It activates a high-voltage relay that can be used to close the circuit on a door strike.

scottyjohn, no probs, I had a laugh, so thanks! I'll try to be more clear- I need it across lots of phones, for the 10 000sgm building with many separate companies offices. We have Definity PBX and the there's posibblity to connect smth-)) to the Definity. If I would know myself what goes to what, which interfaces if, needed, etc would be more specific myself

I'm not an electrician, but wouldn't an analogue relais-box connected to an analogue port on the Definity do the trick? By calling the analogue extension, the box would go off-hook and activatie the relais which would connect the power on the door-buzzer... These relais-things are quite old-fashioned, but I once saw some handy-man who built a security-system for a complete building based on these relais-boxes.
(For all you guys who DO have any knowledge on the subject: please pardon mon french, for I don't have any knowledge on these circuitry-stuff. The only thing I do know is that the solution I saw for switching things on and off via an analogue extension in the Definity was so simple that even I could have built it. And that means something! )

All of their telephony devices should be compatible. They appear to the PBX to be a 2500 (analog) set. With DTMF activation, the only potential problem would be gain and handling call progress. Some devices that I have worked with (not Viking in this case) required an OPX circuit card because of the requirement for CPD (Calling Party Disconnect). They wouldn't recognize an abandoned call without it.

If it was for lots of different companies and therefore lots of doors, you would need to set up a different extension for each relay control unit. You could set up the extension as a speed dial button on each phone so that with one press of the button it would open the door. John

and if we use digital handsets 6408D+,etc, does it have to be connected to the digital Definity PBX slot/port? Do you know if Avaya PBX have to have some extra interfaces that the door opening syst. would be connected to the switch?

With propar equipment and programming this works like a tit.

Did you all see the website I suggested?

There are three parts:

1 Doorphone (with speaker and mike)

2 Interface to connect to a analoge line (or CO if you order that one)

3 Door opener interface which "listens" for a # or * and switches a relais. This is connected parallel to the port.

It works as a hotline, on CO trunk basis or with an external bell.

By the way, we used to sell Viking on Nitsuko and Siemens and it works exactly the same.

You would wire the device up to Analogue extension ports off of an analogue card on the switch. All you would need to do was make sure that the extensions which you created for the door openers are not DDI extensions i.e. if your direct number range is 0181 626 5000 - 5600 then make these numbers in another range such as 1000 - 1999 John

I tried several,
The only one I got to work is the Siedle DCA 650-0 interface
This system is a small switch by itselves and needs only 1 analog interface with the definity.
The way it works is that if someone pushes the button on a doorphone it dials an extension (or group)
The person picking it up gets a tone and can then dial a DTMF string assigned to the specific door, and open it.

Siemens ones (S30817)I tried with no luck...
