SOUND FROM ANY "NET RADIO" LASTS 3 SECS ONLY THEN "BUFFERING" IS DISPLAYED.PRESSING START AGAIN PRODUCES ANOTHER 3 SEC. SOMETIMES FREEZES,ACCOMPANIED BY A DISCORDANT NOISE.
I AM RUNNING:- WINDOW98SE/MICROSOFT MEDIA PLAYER REV7
DVD-ROM PLAYS CDS PERFECTLY.A GAME PLAYS SPEECH FILES OK
1 UNINSTALLED THE MEDIA PLAYER AND RE-INSTALLED--JUST THE SAME.I INSTALED VERSION 9 OF THE MEDIA PLAYER....JUST THE SAME.
ANY IDEAS ???

It's buffering...that's normal, just means it's trying to download enough of the file in advance to playback smoothly.
Are you on a dialup connection? most likely too slow to allow this to work properly. You don't provide any detail about your hardware, maybe it's not up to the task... If you're going through Hell...keep going... (Winston Churchill)

cp speed is 1500,connection speed to isp is 44000.my modem is 56 barry

Like I said, you need broadband to make this work properly. Your modem is not fast enough to provide smooth playback If you're going through Hell...keep going... (Winston Churchill)

the stations i try are rated at28k and 56k so i don't see why Broadband should be required. in any case,i've done this ok frequently with my old machine.i repeated my previous moves, i deleted/uninstalled all references to windows media player and installed windows media player vers 9.still duff but slightly different radio plays in irregular bursts and eventually the machine freezes with a discordant noise. only cured by re-initialising.
i tried using Real one but it seems too confusing to use.however it played radio reasonably ok
HELP, HELP, HELP

ammendment to fault.playback can be erratic, comes and goes.often freezes machine, accompanied by discordent noise.worked fine with old machine.am i missing a plug-in or codec or something ??

think that i've fixed it.went to multimedia/audio/playback and found that if i set the HARDWARE ACCELLERATION to "BASIC",stations play ok. anybody know why ?what is "hardware accelleration" anyway ?
