Hi folks,
I have an xp sp2 pro machine and windows explorer keeps defaulting the views of all folders to the classic 'big icon' or icon folder view. I want this to be the details view for all folders. I have tried the 'apply to all folders' button but this defiantly does not work. Has anybody come across this before? I have searched other forums and have not seen this problem anywhere.
Thank you
OG

You likely are hitting the folder customization limit. Download TweakUI:
Under Explorer, Customizations, set the folder customization limit to at least 800.

Exit TweakUI and reboot. In Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View, Click on Reset all Folders. Now customize the view of any folder exactly as you want. Tools, Folder Options, View, Click on apply the view to all folders.

Hi bcastner,
I thought this might be the problem myself. I have tried it now that you have mentioned it and it is still exhibiting the same problems (I set it to 3000). We are just testing a new business image and 3 people in our IT dept are experiencing the same issue. It will set the view for one folder but for some reason it is not setting the default on all folders (apply to all folder).

If you have any other ideas I would be very grateful to hear them, otherwise I think it may be an issue with our image build process.
Cheers

Hi again,
After looking quite intensively for the last hour I have found the problem. It was located in the local machines group policy (gpedit.msc) under User configuration > Admin templates > windows components > windows explorer

The item is – Turn on classic shell (this was enabled), I set it to Not configured to regain the use of my default views on all folders.

You never know this might one day help somebody else.
Cheers
OG
