How do I change the default user profile in Windows 2000 Professional? More to the point, how do I get certain printers to show up in the default user profile (shared printers from a print server). So far I've had no trouble with veirtual port printers showing up for all users. Just the shared ones are causing problems. Thank you.

I'd use a login script to do this. It's much easier to do than mess with single default profiles.

With a script such as Kixtart, you can have certain printers map to certain groups of users, and not only that - you'll have an interface to apply many other benefits & features for the users such as network policies, maintenance scripts, time sync, etc.. While I agree with pbxman that scripts are the way to go, configure a user with the printers and other settings that you want all new users to have and then go to the user profiles tab and use the copy to: function to copy your custom profile to the default users profile. All new users will get these settings. Obviously this isn't efficient but depending on your needs it will get the job done.....

Where is the default users profile in Windows 2000 professional? That was my original question, and it still hasn't been answered.

C:\Documents and Settings\Default User Please let Tek-Tips members know their posts were helpful. Thanks!

Make sure you have Windows explorer set to 'show all files' as the 'default user' folder is hidden in 2000 unlike NT. Also, if you upgraded from NT to 2000 the default user folder is in c:\winnt(or system root\profiles\
