Default Printer Lost

I have a situation where some users are logging into the network (all NT4 based) and finding that their default printer is not available.

They have to first delete the default printer, then add it back in order to get it to work.

It is happening to most but not all users...I would say 75%. These 75% are Domain all users...nothing special.
Of the 25% that have not reported the problem, 10% are power users or higher, and the remaining are identical to the other 75%. (I hope that makes sense)

No changes have been made on the network to policies or to printers. In fact nothing has been added or removed from the network in the time that this has started cropping up.

Has anyone seen this before? I am having a hard time searching for this topic, as it is difficult to describe and it does not cause any entries to event viewer.

I appreciate any help that you offer.

Chris

Is the printer installed on a NT workstation or a NT server?

Is the printer shared or connected direct to the network and used via JetAdmin or similar?

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!
