Hi -

I am new to MSDE, not SQL but have have a question on MSDE. It appears that MSDE can be installed as a stand alone or embedded in an application. When it is installed as a stand alone on a server, can you tell me what the default instance name is? server\instanceName.

When I try to connect using query analyzer (since we have SQL 2000 anyway) to the MSDE instance, I error out on the server when using only server name - no connection made; therefore I am assuming it needs the full name including the instanceName to connect?
