We currently link our two offices with a router to router VPN. These routers also provide general Internet access. All of the workstations are configured with the router's IP address as the default gateway.

The IP range of office 1 is 192.168.1.x and the default gateway is 192.168.1.254. The IP range of office 2 is 192.168.2.254 and the default gateway is 192.168.2.254.

We have now installed SDSL lines for a dedicated VPN link between our two offices. We will be installing new SDSL routers with a new router to router VPN. We want network traffic destined for the other office to go via SDSL (using the VPN) and normal Internet traffic to go via the old routers. If the new routers have IP addresses of 192.168.(1 or 2).253 and we disable the VPN link on the old routers, will the network traffic find its way to the correct destination?

Assuming a site to site IPSec VPN, you should not worry about that. The routing table will pint all traffic to the Internet and 192.168.1/2.0 will point to the remote office.

If i'm reading you right on your new DSL routers you will need to add a route that points 192.168.1 / 2 traffic to the VPN tunnel and a default route that points all other traffic to the .254 for Internet access.

Thank you for the replies. So if it works automatically then I wont have to do anything else, otherwise I will need a static route defined between the routers.

Your suggestions pointed me in the direction of the following link which gives me the settings I need.

Thanks for your assistance.
