This is a question about default-first-site.

On microsoft technet you find the info underneath.

Your first site was set up automatically when you installed Windows 2000 Server on the first domain controller in your enterprise. The resulting first site is called Default-First-Site. You can rename this site later or leave it as is.

My question now is, can you delete the default-first-site once everything is configured ?
Please provide additional information in your answer proving your point of view. B-)

I wouldn't everything pretty much rides on that including your group policy, DNS and a few other things these are branded to the first site and really can't be moved easily.
Hope that help!
Just a question if you rename why would you need to delete if it is now pointing at something meaningful?

Does anything exist in the 'Default-First-Site' container anymore? Did you move all of your DC's out of it? Why not just rename it something appropriate? I've read Bill Boswell's "Inside Windows 2000 Server" pretty carefully and I don't remember there being anything sacred about the first site once other site objects had been created and populated. I doubt you'd have problems deleting the container, as long as it is empty. On the other hand, why create trouble for yourself if you don't have to? Surely there are more pressing issues to address. The extra site doesn't really lower the efficiency of your AD.

Just "Stop" it. That's what I did, and I haven't experienced any repurcussions... (that I know of). s-) This OS keeps me on the edge of my seat!

owkay, thanx to all that replied to this post

This is what i did, I created lots of sites and moved all servers to the appropriate site and so on.

There was one site that i hadn't populated: the default one.

After doing some additional reading (and helped by the posts up here) (2 ShackDaddy: I bought that book a few weeks ago but never had time reading it, so I'm very busy doin' it right now), I decided to rename the default first site and add a few DC's to it. Everything looks fine.

I'll try to delete it in a lab setup someday just to see what happens :-9

thanx
Bart
