Here's the thing. I recently installed win98. Usually, I immediately install all the other software, like Divx decoders, windows media player 9 and all kinds of other things. This time, I only installed directx9 and video card and chipset drivers. I ran a direct3d test with directdiagnostics and the blocks were turning as fast as I had ever seen them. Everything else was also running a few frames quikcer than usual. Then I wanted to watch some divx movie, so I installed nimo codec pack ver 5, basic install, plus media player audio codec and anything that said divx, except the divx shadow, I think it is. I also installed media player 9 and divx pro bundle 5.03. The next time I player gamed, there was a very noticable slowdown and direct3d tests were down to their usual slow speed. Now, I might be mistaken, but the above thing are the only things I can remember installing before the direct3d slowdown.
Does anybody have any input on this?
