I recently installed a Windows 2000 (Professional) OS onto my cobbled together system into the H partition. I still have Windows NT (Sp 6a) on another partition (C). All partitions are NTFS. I want to de-install Windows 2000 from the its partition so that I can upgrade the existing Windows NT to Windows 2000. But, there seems to be no way I could find to de-install the Windows 2000 from either the installation CD nor the control panel. How can I proceed? Just deleting all files from the H partition, I think, could the Loader to mis-behave (Can the Loader be manipulated directly?). I would rather not have two OS to contend with if at all possible. Thank you.

you can just delete the partition, and remove the windows 2000 entry from your c:\boot.ini file.

If you do this - make sure you uncheck the "real-only" attribute from boot.ini or you wont be able to save it with the removed 2K entry. Right-click on it, and go to properties..the arrtibute is there if you're unfamiliar with that.

Piece of cake..you can do this all from your NT4SP6 OS too - just run disk administrator, format or delete the 2K partition, and edit boot.ini all in one session.

Hope this helps

I am trying to upgrade to Windows 2000 (Professional)onto my cobbled together PC where Windows NT (Sp 6a) resides. All partitions are NTFS. My upgrade causes my PC to freeze and hang. I have reloaded Windows NT a number of times because when the installation fails, the PC is dead. There is nothing remarkable about my PC other than it has an AMD 1 GHz CPU, 1 GIGBYTE of memory, an old Imation SuperDisk floppy (120M capacity) and both a DVD and CD-ROM. Are there any issues installing Windows 2000 PRO on AMD or is my Superdisk getting in the way, or something else?

What is weird is that I can do a clean install of Windows 2000 PRO onto another partition other than C and this works., I just do not want two separate OS on my PC. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you.
