We recently built a new domain controller for our network. I finally was ready today to remove the old server from the network. I fired up DCPROMO to remove active directory, and it errored. By following some MS documents it turned out we had to remove AD by typing dcompromo /forceremoval. This finally removed active directory from the server, but now I have issues with the rest of the network. From my understanding, rememnants of the old server are still stuck in active directory. When I run dcdiag.exe on the new server, I get this error:

(for the safety of our network, I've removed the domain name)

I checked replication and it is working on another backup DC we have in another location, so I think the problem is that it's still trying to replicate to the old server (which is now removed). I deleted the computer account out of AD, but it is still listed under active directory sites and services. Should I delete from AD sites and services as well? Are there other things that need to be done? Everything seems to be working OK, I'm just worried about the error coming up in dcdiag.exe. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

You will want to take a look at my FAQ faq96-4869. At the end there is a script that will remove the defunct servers from the AD metabase.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark
