Figured some of the gearheads on this site would be way lots more helpful than AT&T and Avaya...

I've got a G3r vers 9.5 that is currently having some issues trying to call The Netherlands. I've been told by AT&T (the carrier for the offending trunk group) that changing the DCP/ANALOG BEARER CAPABILITY settings on the DS1 card from 3.1 kHz (the default setting) to speech will fix this - apparently, some switches in various parts of Europe reject the call because of this protocol. I'm trying to find some Avaya documentation that will support this position, but all I can find are documents that only reference the default setting. Any ideas where I might find this? What other traffic could be affected by this change?

I don't know if this is of any help but I am from the Netherlands and we use the default 3.1 kHz setting on the DS1 boards so that should be no problem.

Thanks Huffer. I've heard that this is mainly an issue with Central Office switches - AT&T specifically mentioned 5ESS CO switches.

Do you have maintenance permissions on your PBX? Have you tried a "list trace station XXXX" and tried to place a call to a Netherlands number? You will get information on how the digits are passed to AT&T and you should also get network reject messages or bearer capability mis-match messages.

Statements expressed in this post are my own opinions and should not be considered as the opinion of my employer.

Just for a test try changing your Netherlands (Int'l) routing pattern at the lower part of the page where the BCC settings are from a probable default of restricted to Both, which allows calls of a restricted nature (64K) and unrestricted (56k)
