DC rename

I need to rename a DC...Right now it has all of the FSMO roles assigned to it.

Does the DC rename in 2003 work okay? I have read that I can use the netdom utility or just change it under My Computer, Computer Name but I have heard some bad things about it...

Is there a safe way to do this? I was thinking to:

Transfer roles to another DC
DCPROMO server
Remove from domain
Rename
Rejoin Domain
DCPROMO back to DC

Am I overdoing this? I just think this is probably safer than just going in and changing the name...Any ideas?

Right now, I am 2000 functional mode...I have a few DC's that are 2003 and a few that are 2000...
