Hi there,

In my project i want to allow users to connect to a database of their choice and import data

To do this i need to create a connection to their database of choice and execute a SQL Query which will be built by the user on my form.

Now vb.net has a wizard which i can use to create a connection at design time. Is there a way to use that same wizard at runtime to allow the user to select the datasource?

I highly doubt it (I would have thought that it would be a complied part of visual studio).

I was hoping something similar could be used, much in the way that the file dialogs are availiable

File Dialogs are part of windows, not Visual Studio, which is why they are available and I'm assuming the connection wizard you are talking about (I'm not sure exactly what you mean) is part of Visual Studio.

If you are looking for sql servers, you can use sqldmo to get a list of all sql servers on the network.

From that point you could build your own wiz....

Sorry, but it is possible to let it popup that connection wizard thingie to return the connectionstring. If I can only remember where and when I used it.

Do a long and extensive search on google and you will be bound to find it in a couple of weeks.

I'll come back if I find it.

Is that the wizard the poster was talking about? If so then yes it definately is as I use it in one of my apps. I assumed they meant a connection wizard like one that you may get when going through the Server Explorer or the like.

I think he want's to let them make the connectionstring.

So I don't have to search for it anymore.

I guess we will have to share the star then.
