Database service don't start

I have this problem with my database engine.
I have enabled the debug mode and I have this log

20040430 150358 [ASDBAPI] Build: 1110.
20040430 150454 DB E5111 Timeout waiting for the database to start (dbType=2)
20040430 150454 DB Database Engine is Stopped.
20040430 150910 [ASDBAPI] Build: 1110.
20040430 150914 [ASDBAPI] Build: 1110.
20040430 151001 [ASDBAPI] Build: 1110.
20040430 151006 [ASDBAPI] Build: 1110.
20040430 151006 [ASDBAPI] Fail to DB login machine:, Error Code:-2005
20040430 151006 [CAT] Failed to login to ARCserveIT database.(EC=-2005)
20040430 151006 [ASDBAPI] Fail to DB login machine:, Error Code:-2005
20040430 151006 [CAT] Failed to login to ARCserveIT database.(EC=-2005)

the above errors appears in your log indicate you have a database corruption,
go to database folder in Arcserve path and del the index files *.CHG *.chk rdm.*

start database engine ,the best way instead on wasting your time repearing it is to inisilize astpsdat database from server admin,select database type , then select from menu operation-->inizilize and select only the database aspstdat

the above should solves your problem.

..having done this and still not being able to start the database engine, would you have any suggestion that copes with simply deleteing the entire contents of the database directory and getting the arcserve manager to create a new blank one?. (cant initialise anything if db manager wont start).
 
What version are you running?
Check the logon for the service, under Services. It should be set to logon as system account.
Check the permissions for the ARCserve directory and share.
Check the ARCserve System account.
