I am having to set up a security schema on my db. What I need is a guest account - which can view all but one form, a user account - which can use all but not change forms, queries or get into vb, and a admin - for me.

What would be the best, and easiest way to do this ?

(Sorry if this is entry level stuff, as that is where I am in my learning development).

The standard Access Security Model ( ASM ) will do all this for you.

It sounds like you've never applied the ASM before ( or you wouldn't be asking ).
So here are a few pointers

1. Applying the Access model means that there are a lot of people around here with knowledge that can help you. ( If you design a custom system then YOU become the expert and few will be able to help you. )

2. The ASM is transportable to other access applications and versions. ( Other fixes and bodge jobs might not be )

3. You experience of true ASM makes interesting reading on your CV

4. Start here:-
Compact your database and take a copy and keep it safe.

From the Help menu, print off all the pages on applying Access Security.

Read it all through to get a feel for it. Don't be put off - it sounds a struggle at first but it is worth it.

Read it again to get the real message.

Read it a third time and mark up the salient points.

Apply what you now know safe in the knowledge that if you mess it all up you have kept a copy unsecured somewhere else ( you did make that copy didn't you ? )

Come back here when you have more questions.

I would suggest reading the access security faq. It's long and dense, but it has everything you need to know. There's a copy of it on my web site, or you can get it direct from MS.

Thanks to both of you. I have already started printing out the help files for database security - sure eats a lot of paper. And I have gone over to Microsquash and grabbed their file too. Looks like I've got some reading to do over the weekend.
