Database Restore

Is it possible to restore a database that was archived on one Release 25.40 Option 11C system to another?

Have a situation where networking requirements at one location cannot be supported by the features available on that switch. Have another location that doesn't require those networking features, but it does have the necessary packages. TN/ISM counts are similar enough to work.

Providing your other system is release 25.40 or newer and that you don't have any applications that rely on the original system's dongle should be OK to do in LD 143.

I had read you guide awhile back, but will go back to that again.

What "applications" could be dependent on the security of the dongle? I took an intuitive approach to it with LD 143 with an extra switch, and it didn't seem to like the database from the other system.

The main one would be Meridian Mail for the Option 11 systems. I'm not sure about the Symposium systems?.

No MM or Symposium. Am trying it now....will report back. Only difference in the doc vs what I did previously is that it suggests completing re-install with the sample db, where "live" one.

You only need to do an "XRT" in LD 143. You will get an error message of something like BKP008 which means that the database has come from a different site ID.

Once you have rebooted the system with the new database installed, I'm sure that you will get some errors during the power up. Check them out!. Once you are happy, then do a "EDD CLR" as a normal EDD won't work.

Hoping that XRT is the key.....it didn't like the direct attempt to install the archived db from the wrong site in LD 143.

Once the XRT is finished, follow my guide in going into utilities etc and key in something like "3", "1", "1" etc to restore your copy from the backup location into the main.

THEN, do a reboot or "XSL" in LD 143.

Will need to try a couple other variants of this issue, but can tell you that it worked (practice runs only), with or without XRT in LD 143. XRT did clear the internal backup, however.

I complicated matters by leaving 20 databases from 7 switch sites on the flash card. As the system will only address 10 archives at a time, think that was the reason for the reboot on one of the tries.

It would not work when the "restore" databases were from either an older or newer release site. It would work when the number of TNs/ISMs referenced in the database was well beyond that authorized in keycodes.

Thanks for help, and will report back on rest of "practice" before trying this on two 500 ISM switches.

I wouldn't recommend the use of a flash card as I've found that some of the IP data doesn't get copied across. I always prefer to use a backup copy as everything is saved.
