HELP! I'm getting the following error when trying to run a query. "the database has been placed in a state by user "Admin" on machine "ABC" that prevents it from being opened or locked". I've rebooted all the machines (Win98 peer-to-peer) and read the MS KB information on error 3734 (that this is) but can't seem to clear the error. Can any one help?

I had the same problem yesterday and I solved it by having everyone close the database and then I was able to open it. The database was created on my machine and I had not created any user groups or security, I just put the dbase in a shared folder on the network. And for some reason If I wanted to open it, I had to be the first one. I have a feeling that creating a seperate user group for the othere sers of the dbase will take care of the problem but I can't say for certain. many things about Access still baffle me.

I would strongly urge you to encrypt and secure your database and the assign permissions to those using the system. You will find security issues listed in the FAQ tab of this forum. You can also look at the MS Access help on your system.

If I look at MWD what am I looking for. I see the tables and queries but they, by themselves are Greek (no offense to anyone) to me. This is not a database that needs security so I am avoiding it if possible. The net of it all is that I still can't run my query and I still get the message.
