I am new to my company and am trying to regain space on my NT4.0/Exchange 5.5 server. I have run Exchange Optimizer to move the IS and DS to another drive but got an error saying that there were already files in the location I wanted to use. It seems to be an old Priv.edb file from a couple of years ago (hasn't been modified since 7/3/01) My question is: can I safely delete that file (offline, of course), manually move the current Priv.edb file to that location and change the database path to reflect the new location without causing any problems?

OR- if I delete the file and rerun Exchange Optimizer again will it allow me to move the file?

Many thanks for any help!

If these are in fact old database files, you can move them to a back location, then run optimizer to move your current database files to this location. Once the files are safely moved, you can delete the old database files.

Hope this helps
