database and log files spanning multiple drives...

Hi there.
I know that it is possible to span database and log files across multiple disk drives, however, I have only done this one time and I used only 2 drives. My question is:
Is there a limit to the number of drives that these files can span AND is it possible to span the backup files as well? (HA!, I laugh at myself for even asking about the backup file but I thought maybe, just maybe....)
