Hi, I am trying to do a data merge with a tab-delimited file onto an InDesign file with pre-existing graphics. Every time I perform the data merge with multiple records, the entire page shifts down and only places one record and places each additional record on a separate page. Now when I perform the same multiple record data merge on a blank InDesign file, it works just fine. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can resolve this? Thanks all.

Open up the Data Merge window in ID and click on the triangle at the top to get content placement options. Try fiddling around wiht this to control the shifting. You might also look at number of records per document in that window. If the number of records merged exceeds that, ID will create a new doc for every record.

In the Merge window you can also select Preview to see how things look before merging.

Not too long ago we had to design a bunch of 3 X 4 mailing labels that had a fancy graphic at the top, and had name. address, etc from an Ecel doc - about 4000 entries. We created the merge first and added the tiff after - for no reason other than that's what we decided to do. It went fine - after a good bit of fiddling. You might try adding the graphic after and see if that helps.
