I have a row of data which is used for a pivot table. It was exported from an AS400 machine. It comes in two formats, numbers (012345) and letter and number (a12345).

Some of the data is justified to the left and some to the right.

The data to the right gets picked up by my pivot table. The data justified to the left doesn't. The cells are formatted the same. Can anyone suggest why this would be?

Using Excel 2000.

Hi Lamaar,
I am using excel 97 and come across the same issue from time to time. Formatting cells doesn't work on its own. If you format the cells you then need to physically f2 and enter on each individual cell for the cell format to work. This gets round the problem but can take quite a while if you have lines and lines of data!!! Easiest way around it is use formula's beside the data which will convert the data... ie =value(a1) etc....

you could then reference your pivot table to the formula cells....
