Data and Indexes on different drives?

Hi:
Is this a good idea to place data and non-clustered indexes (for SQL 2000) on different files - and different drives? Theoretically, they shouldn't compete for I/O then. If it's a good idea, but I have only 2 drives, can I put data file on one drive, and transaction log along with indexes - on the other?
Any sharing would be greatly appreciated.

If yopu only have two drives pot your log on one and your data on the other. Leave the indexes with the data.
