Can I use html and ODBC instead of Data Access Pages to eliminate the user from having to have the required Office Product installed on there PC; and still have them view the html)page? What would be the ups and downs?

Thanks

The answer is 'Yes', of course.

We're talking 'Delivery' of data. You are describing use of a Web Server and (generic) Web Browsers vs. the use of Native Software Applications for delivery (of data).

Sure, you can use Web Delivery. The advatages are that Web Delivery is far more flexable in many ways , and less time consuming to develop and deploy (in my opinion). The disadvantages for you may be that there will be a set hardware and software requirements that must be met that may not already be in place.

For instance you'll need a Web Server, a DBMS, development tools, and of course Web browsers on the Client machines. There are lots of options for all of the above, some better than others. The biggest consideration would probably be the presence of 'know-how', or lack of same.
Amiel
amielzz@netscape.net
