Darker images in Quark5 but normal in version 4

In my experience, the previews are displayed differently in the two versions. You may be able to equalize the previews by choices in the preferences section. Unless the two versions output differently (laser, press or pdf), I wouldn't let it bother you. You'll get used to it.
