Since my new purchase of a PC with Vista Home as my OS, I have been unable to download any, repeat ANY zip files. Unless it is in the form of an .exe file, I am out of luck.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Why not? Is there an error message or any further information that you'd care to share?

Will they download if you check from within "Safe Mode with Networking"?

Can you E-mail yourself a test .zip file and then send, receive, or open the attachment?

Do all users have this problem, or is it only seen in your user profile?

smah: No, there are no error messages what-so-ever. There is just a tiny square in the upper left corner kinda like an image holder only smaller and with a fan like emblem in it.

linney: I am the only user on this PC [home]. Wife has her own PC.

Diancecht: Yes, I mean d/l from the web.

That icon you describe sounds like an Adobe (reader) or .pdf icon.

Did you test from Safe Mode with Networking?

One single user is not immune to corruption, you might have to test with a temporary user.

What firewall do you use?

I use AVG firewall

Can you wife download .zip files, if so, what are you running that she isn't?

Zip Files Downloaded with Internet Explorer Are Not Saved to Your Computer

another thing you could try, would be the use of another browser, e.g. FireFox or Opera, if that works then there is a problem with your current browser...

if it is IE, turn off all ADD-ONs and try it then...

Try turning your firewall off, and see if you can download then. If you can, then it's a firewall setting. So, then what you do is try to find the setting dissalowign Zip files, and allow them... if you can't find the option, get a different firewall:

My 2 favorites right now:
1. Online Armor
2. Comodo Internet Security

You can get either from

Oh, if it isn't the firewall, it could still be a setting in your antivirus app, but the firewall would be my first guess.
