D-channel ?

If I need to program a new d-channel, how do I know which d-channel is available? Whether its 1, 2, 3 and so on.

Is it hardware or software will determine the d-channel number? Thanks in advance.

you assign a d channel number.. the device number has to match a switch setting on the card
