I did a 200 CX today, very nice box to work with, almost like a really KSU. I really liked the box. I hope to do more.

They're nice an shiny... Not too keen on how they wall mount as it does not fasten very tightly. Might be OK from a network equipment standpoint but not secure in a traditional telephony way. I also not so keen on the modular ports because is is not as neat, but they do have their time an place in some instalations. On the CXi I like the PPTP connection as it will be good for RMATS. Will be nice when they get the usb ports to work.

Totally agree with Mitelman, the wall mount sucks. I have taken to installing a screw above the unit so it cannot be accidentily lifted up. I think they went with the modular ports because the unit is 100% IP (mostly, I know, Analog ports...), which means it will usually be installed in a server room with patch panels. But if that was the case, then the mod ports should have been in the front!

Other than that, I think it is a winner for a lot of smaller customers. Fairly easy to program, especially if you knew the SX-200.

I was thinking the same way yesturday. I wish they put an amphenal (sp?) cable. It's the neatest and cleanest way.

Now if they would just make a 6 or 12 port DNIC card for the back, they would have a perfect solution (allows dealers to quote a lower priced solution (TDM) and migrate the customer to IP.

Even 1 dnic port would be nice for a superconsole as we have a lot of customers not wanting to do the IP console.

I just thought of a way to get around the Mod jacks if you don't mind a bit of work. Take a 25 pair tie cable, CAT3 or CAT5, and dress it out with mod plugs on one end using a crimp tool. If you do it right, it could look real clean. That way you can also terminate on a Termination Block with the other Telco cable.

Paterson, nice try (haha), it just isn't as neat as it could be.

Not sure where everyone is located, but I see a lot more installs States side (US) that like the RJ connectors. We Canadians ("Nortel Land") like our Amphenols.

I can hardly wait until the day everything is a fibre connection.

Yes, yes it is. It comes with both the wall mount and rack mount in the box.

Yes, I do like the amphenol connections too, I'm also in Canada, but the CX models do not allow it. I just thought that a 25 pair terminated with mod plugs instead of using a large number of line cords would make things cleaner. IF you have the AMB and the expansion AOB you could have up to 16 line cords, what a mess!

I used to install Panasonic Key Systems and some of their stuff had mod jacks, so we would strip a 25 pair cable back about 8 inches, take two pair, and crimp on a RJ11 plug. If you do it right, it is clean. Then terminate the other end on a BIX strip. In the case of the CX, I would only use one pair per mod plug.

I think that I would personally only do this for wall mounted systems. If you are Rack Mounting, then a tie cable from the MDF to a Patch Panel would be cleaner.

I guess it is just personal preference.

I got this little note from Mitel the other day.

Announcing the AV12: a third party connectivity product for the Mitel 3300 CX/CXi Controller. (Bulletin#: PB20050054) This bulletin outlines the availability of an optional cabling product for the Mitel 3300 CX/CXi Controller.
The CX/CXi Controller has an analog option card integrated into the system containing 4 of analog extension ports; 6 of analog trunk ports. These are configured as RJ11 ports.
The product enables these ports to be connected via this box, to allow easy installation to standard bloke wiring.

Has any one else seen this AV12 connectivity Box,
I received "THE SPECIAL CONNECTION BOX" last week, all it is is a 20 pair junction box with cables hanging out with rj11 connectors. All YOURS FOR £80,

I think they must have kidnapped a local OAP home and got them to make a batch of these special boxes.

Don't know about any one else but i don't think my company will be asking for a resupply?

It only takes a few minutes to make these leads up yourself all for a few pounds.

Not to intentionally rain on anyone's parade here, but I didn't think the 50-pin Amphenol connector was CAT5-certified.
How do you maintain proper pair twist all the way to the connector pins?
Absent the proper twist, don't you lose data certification?
I'd sure hate to have to try to build one of those with an old butterfly (AMP/CHAMP) tool.

Well gosh that sure was one of my more stupid posts wasn't it?
For some reason I had it in my head you were trying to work with the phone ports on the CXi.
Obviously we're concerned here with the analog ports and telco trunk ports.
Moral of my earlier post; make sure brain is running before putting keyboard in gear.
