Curser blinks really fast, i can not double click items to open

It appears that something is off really bad on my computer. The curser blinks really fast, i can not double click items on the desktop to open (i have to left click and select "open", the screen saver is set to start after 10 minutes, but comes on in 2. ??!! I've never seen this before does anyone have any ideas?

Here are a few comments:

1. try booting from a virus scan CD - hopefully you are running a virus scanner.

2. What OS? it would really help to know

3. have you installed any shareware or filesharing software before this problem happened?

We purchased 30 computers (new) with win2k.. On most of them i've had this happen. It fixes if if restart on all but this one. The computers are being put on my network that has network virus protection. I dont think it's a virus cause it happens from the first boot on... The first time i start these computers up they are OFF the network...

It doesn't happen in safe mode...
