The first thing you want to do is boot to safe mode. If its still acting weird there, then you likely have problems with the explorer program. If it doesn't happen in safe mode, then you likely have 1 of 3 things happening...

1. Background software causing problems.
2. Virus.
3. Spyware.

I'm betting on number 2.

We purchased 30 computers (new) with win2k.. On most of them i've had this happen. It fixes if if restart on all but this one. The computers are being put on my network that has network virus protection. I dont think it's a virus cause it happens from the first boot on...

What do you mean by network virus protection? Even if you are scanning 100% of all services that come into your network (which its likely you are not), you can still have virus infections. Most softwares are not fullproof, and new viruses can always slip by. Load up the latest Norton on a couple of them (or whatever you have), update it, and scan...
Make sure the software does a comprehensive scan, and not just program files.

IT'S A BRAND NEW COMPUTER!
The first time i start these computers up they are OFF the network...
but i'll do it just so i can say it's not a virus

What are the other possibilities?

Could it have anything to do with the system idle processes?

Okay, you didn't say they haven't been hooked up to the network yet... If you pulled them out of the box, and they're doing this, call the Vendor/Manufacturer. If the problem occured after you made some changes, then you need to look at those changes...

Matt

Thats the plan then... thanks
