I am using the currendate function to pull the current date and compare a field, however if I put this currentdate formula field on the report It returns 09/30/2003 ????????

What the ???? the date in the regional settings and on the bottom left corner say 05/20/2005 ??????

Maybe your Set Print Date setting is fixed to that date, instead of todays date.
