When booting up There is a splash screen on my system. That I want to remove. WHen ever I press Ctrl Alt Del to lock the screen This unwanted image pops up. How do I remove it. I did a search on all Jpgs & bmps and have looked at them all and still can't find this particular picture. Any help would be appreciated.

Something one of the kids did by accident.
I have read a while back on how to change the splash screen but don't recall how to do it.

Any solutions out there?

Alritter,

Did you by get this background from the Internet?

Check the registry key:

HKey_Current_User\ControlPanel\Desktop\Wallpaper - anything listed there?

If so, you can delete it from:
C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp

By the way, Application Data is a protected file, so you will need to adjust your view via the tools menu in "My Computer" before you can see it.

Hope this helps.

Check the following:

HKU\.Default\Control Panel\Desktop\Wallpaper.

Hope this helps,

If you are talking about the Windows 2000 Start up splash screen here is how you change it.

Copy the files to be changed to a working directory. For the W2K splash screen this is ntoskrnl.exe. For the logon window the file needed is msgina.dll. These files can be found in your \Winnt\System32 folder.

Use the resource editor to open ntoskernel.exe and export the bmp resource files you want to change.

After editing the screens, use the resource editor to import them back into the correct place in the original file.

Finally, replace the original files with the modified ones. You will need to either dual boot into another OS to do this or use the W2K Recovery Console. Otherwise, the system file protection will restore the original unmodified files. Also, it's best to keep a backup of the modified files in case you later need to run the SFC and the modified files are replaced.
