Hi there -

I'm thinking of purchasing CSMailto from CGIScripts.net. I have several forms on a site that I initially did in Front Page. Anyone who's used that software knows that it's problematic (typically Microsoft) so we are moving to a Unix server and I'd like to redo the forms using cgi. The thing is, I can code html in my sleep, but I'm just learning cgi. I found this great site, Cgiscripts.net and they feature a script that looks exactly like what I need. My forms have to return a confirmation page that shows what the user has input and at the same time, it must send an email containing this information so that an order can be placed. The script costs $35 which I think is a small price to pay for someone like me who's not really into programming. Has anyone here used it? What did you think?

Thanks so much in advance!

Short Term
- worst case -> buy it and you can't get it to work - you're out $35. No big deal
- possible better case -> you get it to work and the $35 was worth it.

Long Term
Keep working on learning Perl and CGI. The tricks you mention above are nearly trivial.

'just my two $.02 ;-)

Thanks. I'm actually working on learning more cgi, but it's a bit confusing. All I really need the page to do is to return the information entered into the fields and send an email at the same time. I finally figured out how to get the form to send an email, but getting the confirmation page to display the form results is driving me buggy.

I'm sure this can't be that complicated because I've seen it on a bazillion sites, but I never had to do it until recently. My clients have been small business owners who didn't need complex sites in the past. I even broke down and bought a book on cgi but I haven't really had the time to plow through it.

Oh well, back to the books I go....

Thanks again -

You might take a look at the FAQ, faq452-653, in this forum. It goes from fairly simple stuff to slightly more complicated stuff. If you do, I would be interested in some constructive criticism of the FAQ. I wrote it and have not been able to polish it like I want and am interested to find out where the logical gaps are in the treatment of the material. There is a link on the FAQ page to email me if you have any response.
