the docs say to use USR sportster v.34, is this the case or can I use any modem?

I've got a multitech ZBA modem that drops my connection before I can get a login prompt. I have tried 3 different modems now (2 different manufacturers) none work

Do I need to change anything on system-parameters maintenance for this different modem?

thanks

Why not just use the USR for $20 via ebay? There are init strings on the last page of the maint screen.

The system also uses that modem to call out with alarm notification.

4merlucent,

you can use about any hayes-compatible modem. be sure you program it to fixed dce/line speed of 9600 bps, 8 data bits, none parity and one stop bit, and disable automatic answer (ats0=0). csi answers a call itself and it often causes problems just like yours: a call goes in, modem automatically starts to answer it on the first ring and then definity issues ata command that drops connection. very common problem, that is.
