CSEL or M/s on CD rom drive for notebooks

I have two DVD-ROM DRIVES with the same model number SD-C2402 for a Toshiba laptop one says CSEL and one says
M/S

I notice for laptops there aren't any jumpers visible like desktops.
Other than thte tag , how can I tell if something is set to Cable select,
master or slave ? (In other words is there a test I can perfom in the event the Rom drive is not labled?)

Also , If I have something that is M/S how do I make it a slave or master?
